Celebrate Your Dream Wedding in the Maldives

Zeldiva luxury

The Maldives is the smallest country in Asia yet also one of the most beautiful countries. Its an archipelago with over 1000 islands. Over a hundred of these islands are beautiful resorts offering the perfect and romantic setting for a wedding.

If you dream of a Maldivian wedding, read this guide to help you plan a wedding in the Maldives.

Choosing the Resort

Selecting from over a hundred island resorts in the Maldives can be difficult. If you have not been to the sunny side of life, it would be better to hire a professional who can help you plan your holiday experience and your dream wedding in the Maldives.

There are a few things to consider when narrowing down your choices. First is the location of the island. Is it close to the airport? How will you get to the resort? Most of the resorts can be accessed by a speedboat while some will need a seaplane ride. You can contact your travel agency if you need more information about particular resorts in the Maldives.

Next to consider are the amenities and excursions offered by the resort. A bigger island resort can likely offer guests more experiences. A smaller resort can provide you with a more intimate setting.

Find out the types of villas the resort offers. Do they have overwater bungalows or honeymoon villas? Honeymoon villas are by far the most expensive accommodation. If you want to have a dream-like luxury wedding that you will remember for the rest of your life, consider booking a villa closest to the sandbank. The views from there are absolutely stunning.

If you want the best Maldivian wedding, consider a resort that can offer you an underwater experience. It may be a little expensive compared to other experiences offered by other resorts, but it will be all worth it.

Also — do not forget to research what excursions the resort can provide to the guests. Most resorts offer snorkeling, sunset cruises, private dining experiences, diving and watersports. Some meal plans may include a couple of these experiences. Contact the resort or your agency for a list of package inclusions.

Planning a wedding can be stressful - this is why we have a customized holiday experience just for you. Fill out the application for a hassle-free and stress-free wedding experience in the Maldives.

Wedding Package Inclusions

A Maldivian wedding between two foreign nationals is not legally binding. This is because foreigners are not allowed to get married in the country. Most couples who plan a wedding in the Maldives usually already have a legal wedding in their home country. They just want a Renewal of Vows and to experience how beautiful it is to get married in the Indian Ocean.

A traditional wedding in the Maldives includes a lively Bodu Beru procession - where drummers, dressed in traditional clothing, play music with their drums. If you want to incorporate the Maldivian culture, ask the resort if they offer this during the wedding.

There are resorts that can offer couples a Sandbank wedding or an Island Wedding. With a sandbank wedding, you will be surrounded by panoramic ocean views. There is just nothing like it.

If you have already chosen which resort to book, check out their Wedding or Renewal of Vows packages.

A typical package usually includes:

A wedding coordinator
Sparkling wines and chocolates upon arrival of the guests
Decorations at the wedding venue
Drummers and bridesmaids (if the couple do not have their own entourage)
Cakes, house wines
Dinner by the beach
Breakfast in bed

Photography is usually already included in their wedding packages. Maldivian resorts have their own professional photographer who can take beautiful photos of your wedding.

Couples can also book extras such as Bridal Care or Groom Care. These packages usually include a visit to the Spa before the wedding.

There are also ceremonial add-ons that you can add such as video coverage, drone, romantic sunset cruises. Contact the resort for a list of add ons that you can add to your wedding package.

Additional charges apply if family members or friends will be joining the celebration.

Selecting Your Wedding Date

The Maldives only has two seasons: the wet and dry seasons. December - April would be the best time as you get more sunshine in these months. Dont worry though - the country is sunny almost year-round.

A Few Resorts to Consider:

Velassaru Maldives

Velassaru offers 3 wedding packages for couples: Tropical Package, Deluxe and Premium Package.

All packages include a wedding in a beachfront location by the waters edge. Other inclusions include romantic tropical set up, master of ceremony, bridal bouquet, wedding cake, champagne, Renewal of Vows certificate.

If you want more inclusions, sign for the premium as it includes a lobster breakfast in the villa, a romantic dinner by the beach and a signature couple spa treatment.

Extras include video coverage and photography, sunset cruises and other excursions.

Soneva Jani

Located in Medhufaru, Soneva Jani is set in a private and intimate lagoon. It offers a sense of calm and luxury to all the guests.

A coordinator is already included in their wedding packages. Soneva Jani offers either a lagoon and beach ceremony. Both offer an intimate and extraordinary wedding experience.

When it comes to dining, Soneja Jani offers a choice of six fine dining restaurants that would appeal to your palette. For the wedding party, tables will be set up on the crystal clear lagoon with a menu designed to your taste.

For couple experiences, snorkeling and diving are available, as well as a wedding party at an over-water cinema. There you can share magical moments with your loved ones.

Dusit Thani Maldives

Outdoor weddings at Dusit Thani are held at either the beach or at the sandbank with up to 40 pax capacity for a sandbank wedding. Couples can personalize their menu or choose from five different cuisines.

They offer 4 different wedding packages to couples: Borderless Wedding, Beach Wedding, Sandbank Wedding and Vow Renewal.

Extras include enhanced wedding cake, 5-course menus, borderless dining experiences, spa treatment, live band and DJ performances, sunset cruise, tree-planting ceremonies and photography packages.

Planning Your Honeymoon

Almost all resorts offer excursions, water sports and other experiences for couples and all guests.

For your unforgettable honeymoon, book sunset cruises, private dining experiences and underwater dining. Watersports you can try in the Maldives include kayaking, stand-up paddleboard, wakeboarding, island hopping, snorkeling, parasailing, diving, North Ari experiences and marine life excursions. You will have to check for the resort if they do offer these.

If you love to dive, most resorts offer diving courses both for beginners and advanced divers. Some of these resorts even have their own Decompression Chamber like Kuramathi Maldives.

We would suggest for couples to try as many experiences in the Maldives. The country has a lot to offer couples and travelers. If you have children, make sure that you select a resort with a Kids Club so you have quality time together with your significant other while your kids enjoy playtime at the Kids Club.

Explore The Marina Crossroads Maldives

Before you leave the country, make sure you pass by The Crossroads Maldives. Built just in 2019, The Crossroads is the largest lifestyle hub in the Maldives. Its only a 15-minute speedboat ride from the airport.

Couples who want to experience more of the Maldives may book one of the resorts at The Crossroads: Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and SAii Maldives.

There are more than 10 restaurants at the crossroads, several shops, a spa and other interesting experiences.
